Nick Mansons is Director of Cherry Tree Luxury Holiday Apartments in Beadnell, Northumberland. He combines a longstanding love for the area with a commitment to comfort and personal service, helping guests enjoy the village, coastline, and surrounding countryside while making every stay relaxing, memorable, and uniquely Northumbrian.

What do you think makes Beadnell a unique destination for travelers seeking a getaway in Northumberland?

Beadnell offers a rare blend of tranquillity and adventure, making it an ideal retreat on the Northumberland coast – it’s why we love having our holiday accommodation here!

It has an authentic charm of peaceful, unspoilt beaches and a friendly village atmosphere. Beadnell’s crescent-shaped bay is perfect for watersports – our guests love to take out a SUP on calmer days, while a bit of swell makes it great for kitesurfing!

And the surrounding countryside is what attracts walkers and nature lovers. Some of Northumberland’s coastal spots are very on-the-map, but Beadnell is still quite undiscovered which our guests always love.

Whether you’re watching the sunset over the harbour or taking a bracing stroll along the dunes, there’s something uniquely grounding about being here.

For visitors interested in outdoor activities, what are your top recommendations in and around Beadnell?

Beadnell is fantastic for paddleboarding and kayaking thanks to its sheltered bay. And just beyond the beach, walkers can enjoy the scenic coastal path that stretches north towards Seahouses and Bamburgh.

For something a little different, I’d recommend a boat trip out to the Farne Islands – ideal for spotting puffins in spring and summer and seals in autumn and winter.

And cyclers will find quiet country lanes and coastal routes to explore. It’s an area that really encourages you to slow down and reconnect with the outdoors.

What’s your take on the best way to experience Bamburgh and its surroundings? Are there any lesser-known spots near the castle that visitors should explore?

Bamburgh Castle is of course the star attraction, but the surrounding village is just as charming with its stone cottages, cosy tearooms and rustic pubs.

To escape the crowds, I suggest exploring the dunes to the north of the castle where you’ll find incredible views and quieter walking trails. Budle Bay, just beyond, is a hidden gem – especially at sunset. If you’re into history, the Grace Darling Museum adds a moving layer of local heritage that shouldn’t be missed.

With your experience living in or visiting this area, what do you think travelers often overlook or miss when visiting Beadnell and the wider Northumberland coastline?

Most visitors stick to the main attractions, but there’s real magic in the quieter moments and lesser-trodden paths.

Places like Low Newton-by-the-Sea or Embleton Bay are spectacular and often much quieter than their better-known neighbours.

People sometimes miss the opportunity to slow down and absorb the landscape – whether that’s watching seabirds along the coast or taking a detour to discover a quiet village pub. The pace of life here is different, and that’s a huge part of its charm.

What do you think sets Northumberland apart from other UK destinations in terms of both its natural beauty and cultural heritage?

Northumberland is still wonderfully under-discovered compared to other UK hotspots. It offers vast, open landscapes, dramatic coastlines, and skies so dark you can see the Milky Way.

Culturally, it’s incredibly rich – from Roman forts like Vindolanda to medieval castles steeped in history. There’s a deep sense of place here, shaped by centuries of stories and a proud, welcoming community. It’s the kind of destination that leaves a lasting impression and keeps you coming back.
