Beadnell is a quaint village set on a horseshoe-shaped bay. Although the village is small with a population of around 500, there are lots of amenities and shops for you to visit during your stay.
For centuries, Beadnell has been a small-scale fishing village, offering essential food, drink, and supplies for its inhabitants. Over the years, these shops have evolved to cater not only for locals but also to the many visitors to this beautiful village who come to enjoy the tranquil countryside and coastal history.
These days, Beadnell shops have everything on offer from necessities, like milk and bread, to local produce, and beach essentials. Here is a list of shops that you can find in Beadnell village.
As well as being just a 20-minute drive from large supermarkets like Sainsbury’s (which you’ll find nearby Alnwick), there are local shops in Beadnell Village that are within walking distance from our apartments.
Beadnell Convenience Store
In the heart of the village, on Harbour Road, Beadnell Convenience Store is a charming local shop that will keep you stocked up with all the provisions you might need during your stay.
From fresh produce to pasta and everything in between, the village store has all the food and drink essentials that you might need during your stay. It is part of The Sea Breeze shop which also has a post office and chip shop next door.
The village shop is just an eight-minute (0.4-mile) walk from our apartments, so you can pop out for breakfast and other essentials quickly and easily.
Further along the coast, the nearby village of Seahouses has a Co-Op shop. Easy to reach by following our Beadnell to Seahouses walk, a shopping trip has never promised so scenic a route!
Bear in mind – you will need to walk back with your shopping, which will take around 50 minutes.
Since the village is on the coast and renowned for the breathtaking bay views, you are likely to be spending some time on the beach during your stay. Whether that is a wet and windy walk along the sand or a sunny afternoon building sandcastles, you may need a few beach essentials to enjoy your time near the sea.
Thankfully, Beadnell shops have a few things on offer so you won’t have to go far to find what you need.
The Sea Breeze
Located on the seafront with the village store, The Sea Breeze has a selection of buckets, spades, towels, and other beach gear. So as well as offering a range of food and drink, you can pick up any beach essentials that you may have forgotten for your holiday.
The Sea Breeze is an 8-minute walk from our apartment or a 1-minute walk from the beach.
If you are interested in trying local produce during your stay, Beadnell’s eateries serve a fantastic array of local food.
Being a village by the sea, Beadnell offers a variety of fresh fish and seafood. The Landing is a restaurant on the bay that offers an array of freshly smoked fish and seafood, sourced directly from the North Sea.
The Landing is in Beadnell Bay, which is a 20-minute walk (1 mile) from our apartments.
Abis Bakes And Cakes
Abis Bakes And Cakes is just around the corner from our apartments. It offers local bread, cakes, and pastries to go. These are perfect treats to pick up for a holiday breakfast in your self-catering apartment, or as part of your picnic if you’re planning a day out.
It is just 0.1 mile away from our apartments, which is a three-minute walk door to door.
When it comes to bringing back a piece of your holiday with you, Beadnell itself offers some souvenirs, but in Seahouses, you’ll find a high street of shops with handmade gifts and trinkets.
The Northumbrian Hamper in Seahouses is an independent store on the high street. Here, you can find an assortment of unique and locally crafted souvenirs, from handmade jewellery to crafts inspired by the stunning Northumberland coast.
Using the coastal path, the Northumbrian Hamper is less than three miles walking distance away from our apartments, or you can drive in just five minutes.
Shops that Offer Something to do
KA Adventure Sports
In Beadnell Bay itself, you’ll find the KA Adventure Sports shop. Here you can book kitesurfing lessons, coasteering sessions, stand-up paddle boarding, and surfing lessons. And you can also hire water sports equipment to use in the bay yourself.
The shop runs from a shipping container in Beadnell Bay, near Lime Kilns, which is one mile away from our Beadnell holiday apartments.
Book by the Sea Beadnell Library
Although not exactly a shop, Book By The Sea is a charitable community library with spots across Northumberland, including Beadnell. You can find its exact location here. You’ll find a library of books that have been donated by locals and visitors and the concept is simple: take a book, leave a book.
So if you’re looking for something to do, visit Book By The Sea and find a book to read while you holiday on the beach. It’s just 0.3 miles from our apartments and a stone’s throw away from the seafront.
